Research: Detecting fake news and conspiracy propagators using psycholinguistics
In the Research series, we highlight recent LIWC-based academic research that has implications for many of the use cases that our clients are focused on.
Accurately detecting fake news and disinformation on social media is more important than ever.
Researchers from Spain, the Netherlands, and Germany have developed a model that "combines word embeddings with psycho-linguistic characteristics extracted from the tweets of users" in order to flag and to detect propagators of conspiracies.
The authors used LIWC to "analyse and compare different linguistic patterns between the tweets that are posted by conspiracy propagators and by anti-conspiracy propagators", and also investigated their personality traits, as well.
